Our History
Carmel Latin School has been providing a classical Christian education to families in the Indianapolis area since 2011. The school began from a nucleus of families interested in a Latin school education centered on excellence in academics and the development of Christian character. In the early years, the school’s founder and fellow administrators joined the Highlands Latin School Network and operated as Highlands Latin School Indianapolis for 14 years.
In 2017, the school was incorporated as Indy Latin School Association and established a board to provide governance to the school as a non-profit organization. In 2024, in preparation for future growth and development, the school changed its name to Carmel Latin School, reflecting the community it serves.
Over 1,000 students have come through the doors since the school’s beginning, averaging 180 students each year in JK-12th grade. To date, the school has had 84 high school graduates. CLS graduates attend colleges and graduate schools across the country and successfully enter the professional workforce. In the past five years, the school has averaged an SAT score of 1340. Eight students have been recognized as National Merit Scholars, 5 finalists and 3 commended. Elementary students score at or above the 75th percentile on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Carmel Latin School educates students of all abilities, helping every student become a better student through its academic program.
Carmel Latin School operates on two campuses. The East Campus houses the lower school students at Trinity Baptist Church at the corner of 126th and Keystone. The West Campus serves grades 7th-12th and meets at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. In 2020, Carmel Latin School purchased a 30 acre property at the intersection of 146th and Shelbourne Road, with plans for a campus on this site.
