House Renaissance Competition
Carmel Latin School Upper School students (grades 7-12) all participate in the House program. Each student is assigned to one of four Houses (House of Andrew, David, George, or Patrick) and they remain in that House from year to year.
Each Friday there is a Club Sports period where the Houses enjoy and compete in various activities.
In the spring, Houses engage in the Renaissance Competition. This title comes from the idea of the “Renaissance man”, meaning someone who has many talents or areas of knowledge.
Houses choose different House members to compete in events in the three areas: Body, Mind, and Spirit. The Body category includes events like running, archery, and pull-ups. The Mind category includes events like math, Latin translation, and Greek translation. The Spirit category includes events like dramatic performance, vocal and instrumental performance, baking, and poetry recitation.
Students serve in leadership positions within their House and collectively plan and implement strategies for winning the coveted House Cup, which is awarded to one House every year.
